August 2014

It has been quite sometime since I have posted to this blog. I'm not sure who is following along out there, but it has been an eventful few years for the Baers. Please check out http://baermissionaries.blogspot.com/ to see what is happening with Lexie and Tayler as they serve missions for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They are an inspiration to me!

Life is good. I am blessed with good friends, family and health.

Lovelock, Nevada

Nevada is full of hidden treasures. One of my favorite things to do while traveling for work is to run and observe what some of the small towns have to offer. Lovelock is something special. Not only are the teachers amazing, but the little town too. From down right ghost town looking structures to the charming Lovers Lock Park, this place is in my heart. No one told me that locking love in Lovelock was the secret to lasting love! Now I know! Maybe someday I'll place a lock on the chain.

Grandma and Grandpa are HOME!!!

After serving as full time missionaries for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Fairbanks, Alaska for 23 months, Grandma and Grandpa Spens are HOME!! They came home to new grandchildren, taller grandchildren, grandchildren with less teeth, grandchildren with more teeth, but mostly to a family full of love and admiration for them and their example. Their service has blessed us all in countless ways.

At the beach...

A mathematics conference sponsored by NCTM for teachers of high school mathematics afforded me the opportunity to rub shoulders with some great people, learn a lot and enjoy one of God's greatest creations, the ocean! These pics are from Manhattan Beach near LAX in Los Angeles, CA. The conference was awesome, the beach was awesome! I love the feel of the sand in my toes, the sound of the waves, the smell in the air...all of it! I read, ran, ate, walked, waded, and observed as I spent many hours here over the course of 3 days. What a treat!

Artistic finds...

Two of these did not come from Nevada! Can you guess which two?

Performers and Singers...

Jacob's final choir concert was held at the Sacred Heart Church. It was a wonderful performance. I'm glad he's had a good experience with the choir and intends to continue. Lexie and Cactus gave a clever duet the weekend he came to sing in Ely. The town enjoyed his many performances including the National Anthem on Memorial Day.
